Exercise 2

Соотнесите слова и выражения слева с их значением. Хватайте кирпичики справа и перетаскивайте их в нужное место. Некоторые из этих выражений нам пригодятся чуть позже, когда мы будем перефразировать предложения более продвинутым языком. Ну а пока - кирпичики)))

Exercise 3

Вписываем нужные предлоги и частицы (даны перед упражнением) в предложения. Любой из них можно использовать больше одного раза.

Exercise 4

А знаете, какая распространенная проблема возникает с новыми словами и выражениями? Их запоминают в какой-то одной форме и потом не могут изменить фразу соответственно ситуации.

Например, запомнив get it up именно в таком виде, многие забудут (или не додумаются?) добавить –ing в таком предложении:

Так что в этом упражнении давайте потренируемся жонглировать формами. Где-то понадобится прошедшее время, где-то нужно будет добавить –ing, где-то вы возьмете частицу to и так далее. Два-в-одном: гибкость мышления и грамматика!))

Все фразы указаны в скобках, осталось только поставить их в нужную форму. Пишем всю фразу в одном окошке, как в примере выше.

1. John has a thing for antique books. He's always on the lookout for new ones to add to his collection. (have a thing for)

2. After spending 20 years on the road, they have finally decided to call it a day and settle down. (call it a day)

3. The way she was coming on to Jack, I’m amazed he managed to get out alive! (come on to)

4. Esther was caught making out with her boyfriend in the library the other day. (make out)

5. 6 moths without sex? That’s not healthy, you have to get laid soon. (get laid)

6. I am just as beautiful as a model, but I work for a living. I'm like a model who has taken the high road. (take the high road)

7. I'm sorry I didn't give you a call first - I just happened to be in the area and thought I'd drop in and say hi. (happen to)

8. There were a few problems, but nothing I couldn't handle. (can’t handle)

9. Models are a lot looser than you'd think. It's way easier to screw a model than a regular girl. (screw)

10. Despite her age, Jane was never treated with much respect. (treat)

Exercise 5

В этом упражнении мы провернем один интересный финт ушами)) Мы возьмем новые выражения и распространим их, добавим в каждое по одному слову. Но вот в какое именно место в предложении их лучше добавить - придется подумать. Например:

Просто копируйте предложения и вставляйте их в окошки (старым добрым copy-paste), а потом решите, куда лучше поставить слово в скобках и впишите его!

Приступим!

Exercise 8

Перефразируйте предложения (только зачеркнутую часть, остальное оставляем, как есть) более продвинутой / точной / новой лексикой. Да-да, тут-то нам и пригодится одно из первых упражнений (я предупреждала!)) Но постарайтесь обойтись без него, думаю, вы и так справитесь.

Копируем оригинал предложения, вставляем в окошки и перефразируем зачеркнутые фразы новой лексикой. Например:

1. I didn't expect it to cost as much as it did. I didn't expect it to cost that much.
2. You have to go now, if you don’t, you’ll miss your bus. You have to go now, otherwise you’ll miss your bus.
3. I'm sick of hearing homophobic heterosexual people talking about gays.I'm sick of hearing homophobic straight people talking about gays.
4. They say he's having sex with the boss's wife. They say he's screwing the boss's wife.
5. One minute I can be walking down the street, totally cool, and the next minute I'm depressed without a cause. One minute I can be walking down the street, totally cool, and the next minute I'm depressed for no reason.
